I tried Rits but I found most of the skills rely on having spirits cast and they die so darn easily now that you spend most of the time recasting and not really doin damage or healing.

ANy ideas what profession and builds I could try for some damage and support play?

thanks

My suggestion would be a Hybrid Ele or Nec.
Ele:
A combination of fire and earth ele is very nice. Have massive fire AoE along with some defensive wards (melee in particular) can be very usefull in every party.

Nec:
Hex nec can shut down melee targets using skills like reckless haste, enfeeble, price of failure etc. They can also do damage using Spiteful Spirit, Barbs, Mark of Pain. Bring some well with you will help your party greatly as well, although you MM might hate you.

You don't need fire for AoE. Earth has AoE too.

Acually I might avenge you, Mesmers, Ritualists AND Dervishes all have some pretty good skills that help allies out. Dervish/Paragon with Earth,Motivation and Spear Mastery is good for helping people on pve and gets some good damage in.

Ritualist can deal out some damage and heal at the same time. Sprits die yes but they are still doing there jobs you must be running the dmg reducing ones. Try the offensive ones. They can do some pounding for you. Especially popular in PVP RA.

Paragon is a good choice as well you can go with the “me chuck spear style” or the motivational help the whole group at the same time. Or a mix of both. Good armor and good damage

Earth AoE is pretty bad, to be fair. Only really Eruption is all too good.

OP - A Mind Blast ele beckons. Throw on Mind Blast, Fire Attune and Rodgort's Invocation, you deal decent damage and have got a whole bar to fill with whatever you want - Heal Party, Wards, Blinding Flash... whatever.

[skill]mind blast[/skill][skill]rodgort's invocation[/skill][skill]fire attunement[/skill][skill]heal party[/skill]

also... Paras are still godly. "There's Nothing To Fear!", "Save yourselves!" and other support type shouts backed up by warrior-equivalent DPS from range...

and... Rits is good, just... learn to position spirits better. Take Offering of Spirit, Splinter Weapon and Ancestor's Rage as the core of the build, letting your physicals tear stuff to shit, then fill up on... whatever - Live, Recuperation, Mend Body and Soul, Spirit Rift...

[skill]offering of spirit[/skill][skill]ancestors' rage[/skill][skill]splinter weapon[/skill][skill]mend body and soul[/skill][skill]recuperation[/skill]

There is of course another very good support class, trouble is they are often overlooked and undervalued by parties.

I mean of course the Mesmer.
The reason they are so misunderstood is that much of what they do to help the party is unseen, because they prevent the enemy harming the party their work isnt as obvious as the monk healing or the necros wells.
However
Who else can deny key spells to the enemy and use them with full effect back at them.
Who can interupt better.
You can slow drain health and energy and cause harm to enemies when they cast spells attack or even cure themselves.

In fact they are imo one of the most usefull classes to have along especially if you have a tough boss to kill.

oh and don't give up on ritualists completely there are a couple of spirits that heal and protect the party from the back line
They even have a spell that hits enemies with lightning and heals their spirits too and thats Spirit boon strike 106 lightning damage and heal all spirits the same amount

they are unused because their primary attribute sucks, you see mesmer skills on /Me's all the time

Hi guys,

thanks so much for your comments. Really appreciate all the ideas and especially the build ideas

Rit was mentioned by a lot of you and since I already have one that I have just got max armor for, I thought I best give it another shot.

They rule!!!

I changed my build to chan/resto and had a go at one of the early factions missions. There weren't any people around so I ended up with a guy who had a few heroes, including the only monk the team had. The heroes had the worst builds I had ever seen. The monk was smiting and healing with some weird skills and Olias and Koss were both secondary ele with half a bar of primary skills and half a bar of fire!!

We decided to give it ago and as soon as we started I had to keep healing the monk as she was gettin poisoned all the time cos this guy didn't know how to flag her.

SO yea I had to run round usin mend body and soul, and some other healin stuff but also usin ancestors rage on warriors and sins which is awesome. I also used bloodsong and rift to add some more damage.

I'm babbling now so I'll stop. But yea, I think this prof suits me now so I'll keep goin and get some elites and see how it goes.

thanks again for your help

Go Ranger/Necro and take Healing Spring and Blood Bond, imo.

Rit is probably what you are looking for. You can spec in channeling and put some points in restoration for the spirits, and even take some weapon spells such as SLW. Paragon is more one or the other, healing/support or damage. And Necros with wells are often not used, and are more commonly wanted to be MM or SS or damage.

For what you want out of a class, I think you're looking for a Ritualist. Heal, Spirit Spam, Channeling, they can MM, pretty versitile.
